From my desk to yours

I firmly believe in accessibility of resources and sharing of knowledge. Unfortunately, in the world of writing and poetry, information on opportunities, grants, residencies and other programs is often scattered, almost hidden away in a maze of dead links or aggregated across multiple websites.
I have found myself spending more time on researching these opportunities than it took me to actually apply to them.

I decided to build a small script for myself that would scrape the internet on a weekly basis and summarize the findings in a simple dashboard. After sharing this first effort with other writers and getting positive feedback, I realized that this could and should benefit more people than just myself.
This is the motivation The Open Desk grew out of.

“The Open Desk does not rank opportunities by prestige, and nobody pays to be listed.”

It is my first step to try and make resources and opportunities more accessible for everyone. I will be consistently working on The Open Desk, improving the function and usability of the dashboard and updating it weekly with new opportunities.
